Intro
A 94m² cliff-top timber cabin for a private client in Matanzas, Chile. Two ensuite bedrooms with shared living space, oriented toward the Pacific Ocean. Project awaiting planning approval with interior layouts in development.
Process
Research established a 1.22m grid utilising 3.66m modules based on Chilean timber standards. Design centres flexible living space with sliding bedroom doors. Structural system aligns with local framing practices to minimise waste and complexity.
Goal
To balance modern comfort with regional architectural character on a tight budget. Maximise ocean views through strategic glazing and terrace positioning. Employ local labour and standard materials for cost efficiency.
Result
Design estimated at $42,000 USD using regional contractors. Grid-based approach ensures efficient construction while achieving discrete integration with area vernacular. System provides expansive Pacific views within budget constraints.
