Intro
Native Lands Vision is an interactive online platform that uses digital mapping to make Australia’s complex land tenure systems legible, exposing how legislation has been weaponised to expropriate Indigenous land and render territorial legal processes nearly impossible to navigate.
Process
The platform consolidates scattered maps and legal documents into a navigable interface. By revealing territorial restrictions and hierarchies, it makes visible the otherwise obscured mechanisms of state control. It operates across continental, regional, local, and building scales.
Goal
To create a tool for Aboriginal claimants, lawyers, and activists to understand and discuss the invisible territorial forces shaping land rights. It also serves as an educational resource, reflecting Indigenous perspectives on land ownership that differ from colonial frameworks.
Result
The resulting platform transforms a fragmented legal landscape into a coherent, interactive system. By visualising legislative complexity, it empowers users to frame land claims, challenge systemic oppression, and engage with land rights at multiple spatial scales.
